Hothouse Hunk: Matthew McConaughey (July 2012)

Southern charm, washboard abs and pecs you could crack walnuts on. He needs no introduction but I’m going to give him one anyway (metaphorically speaking, sadly). Welcome July’s Hothouse Hunk, Matthew McConaughey.

Although his horror credentials are scant, when he gets get it right, he gets it right. Early in his career he played a bit part in the horror comedy My Boyfriend’s Back (1993) and it would be almost a decade before he came back to the fold and coincidentally gave one of the greatest performances of his career. Frailty (2001) proved that he was not only gorgeous, but that his abilities went far beyond the romcoms we were accustomed to.

This rare offering was followed up by Reign Of Fire (2002), which though not strictly a horror film, certainly had enough elements to keep us happy. Matthew once again turned it out and even if he hadn’t then let’s be frank, who cares?

Apparently only giving us horror fans something to perve over once a decade he was back again in Killer Joe (2011) with another standout performance and with the directorial lineage (William Friedkin of The Exorcist) how could it go wrong?
We look forward to seeing you again in 2021 Matthew.
