Merry Christmas, Hothouse Flowers! This Yuletide we’ve decided to go vintage and pay homage to not only the Hothouse’s favourite festive film, but also one of our most quoted horror heroines of all time – honestly, I can’t pick up the phone without hollering; “hello, hello” (extra emphasis on the ‘O’). December horror hottie could be none other than the Buenos Aires-born beauty, Miss Olivia Hussey. Oof.
Most of us were probably first introduced to ‘The Hussey’ in English class during a screening of the 1968 version of Romeo & Juliet in which she appeared as the ample-bosomed Juliet at the tender age of 15 (or so).
Six years later, clad in one hell of a jumper, she starred in the utterly fantastic Canadian horror, Black Christmas; a film that undoubtedly leads the way in Yuletide horror and has helped to develop the humble ‘slasher’ into a respected genre of its very own.
In 1990, she also played Norma Bates in TV movie prequel, Pyscho IV: The Beginning. Total MILF.
To round off, I feel we should also have an honourable mention to Olivia Hussey’s co-star in Black Christmas, Margot Kidder who you’ll also recognise as Lois Lane. Black Christmas wouldn’t have been half as awesome without you, Barb…
