Sexuality and lust have long been at the very core of vampire mythology and, heavily influenced by euro horror of the 1970s, you could be forgiven for thinking this soft-core vamp romp is somewhat of a ‘sexploitation’ film. That is until you learn that Kiss of the Damned is directed by a woman (Xan Cassavetes) and that the cast is predominately female.
The plot focuses on vampire Djuna (Johnny English Reborn’s Josephine de la Baume) who falls for screenwriter (and human) Paolo (Heroes’ Milo Ventimiglia). Whilst at first she tries to resist him, she finally gives into her passion and Paolo soon joins her as an immortal, but it isn’t long before Djuna’s sister Mimi (Roxane Mesquida) turns up and complicates matters.
It looks to us like this film dips a toe into art-house horror before hopping over the fence and getting stuck in with everything that makes b-movies entirely awesome. A definite must watch for anyone who likes their vampires hot and bloody. As huge fans of female-led We Are the Night, we are particularly looking forward to this upcoming flick.
The film hit festivals in the latter half of 2012 and is now tipped to be due for theatrical release on the 3rd May 2013.
