The time has finally come! The long-awaited and long-feared remake of horror classic The Evil Dead, known this time around as simply Evil Dead, is due out in the UK on the 19th of this month. Upon hearing the news of the 2013 remake we at The Horror Hothouse were outraged. “The original is perfect”, we cried, and “what’s the need to remake one of the best horror films ever?” That being said, as the months crept by and more and more details were revealed, we are now incredibly intrigued and begrudgingly excited – and, of course, you can only imagine our delight when we watched the trailer and spotted this month’s horror hottie, Jessica Lucas.

Vancouver-born actress burst onto the big screen in 2006’s The Covenant as Kate Tunney. The film focuses on a group of guys who belong to some kind of supernatural fraternity where they are forced to battle a power that was though to have died out long ago. Maybe not the best film or the biggest part, but a worthy cinematic debut at the least.

Her real big break came in 2008 when she starred alongside True Blood‘s Marlena Diamond in Cloverfield. For those of you who somehow haven’t seen Cloverfield, here’s the gist. The film follows the lives of five New Yorkers after a monster attack grips the city. Told via the perspective of a video camera, the movie is undeniably one of the best hand-held camera movies to date.

Later that same year, Amusement, yet another horror film marks Miss Lucas’ resume. The film focuses on three women who are being stalked by a killer with a long-lasting grudge.

After a few ‘TV years’, she’s back and now she’s playing the role of Olivia in remake Evil Dead. With the original being a firm favourite for most horror fans the remake follows the same plot, focusing on a group of friends who discover a Book of the Dead and unwittingly awaken the dormant demons living in the woods that encase the cabin they are holidaying in. In a brutal game of survival of the fittest, the friends are possessed until, eventually, only one is left.
