Hot on the heels of Kim Newman’s Anno Dracula 1895: Seven Days in Mayhem our friends at Titan Comics take us back to Victorian London again to kick off the next chapter in the Penny Dreadfull saga with fabulous artwork by Jesus Hervas. Gathering up the loose ends from the TV show’s final season.
Six months after the events at the end of the TV show’s final season, Ethan Chandler finds himself unable to move on. Searching desperately for meaning in his life without Vanessa, he is called on once again to take up arms this time against an ancient evil unleashed by an archeological expedition headed up by Ferdinand Lyle.
Chris King Penny Dreadful ‘s co-executive producer Chris King told us: ‘Many of the audience’s favorite characters will be returning throughout the comic series. We hinted at some many different story areas that we never go to fully explore in the TV series so it’s been great to go back and explain some of the mysteries we left unsolved. One big tease is that old lovers will reconnect once again.’
Chris continued: ‘I love all these characters and the world we created so much that I am thrilled to have it continue for a whole new audience. I look forward to both our fans and the new audience discover the magic and intrigue of Penny Dreadful.
As with Anno Dracula 1895: Seven Days in Mayhem, the comic debut comes with additional covers for Penny Dreadful fans to collect including two connecting photo covers featuring Vanessa (Eva Green) and Lily (Billy Piper), and art covers from Stephen Mooney, Rob Davis, Shane Pierce, Louie De Martinis and series artist, Jesús Hervás.
The first issue of Penny Dreadful is available now at Titan Comics online price £3.30 UK. We think it looks fabulous and can’t wait to see how the story developes.
